Feminist Work by Narolyn Mendez

A feminist work of literature critically analyzes and critiques the role of both men and women in different institutions of society. There are many norms that are placed by society dictating how men and women must behave and what their responsibilities are and should be. Feminism is traditionally viewed as the fight for women to be able to have the same rights and opportunities that men do. This is a fight that continues to be completely relevant and important in today’s world, and although this is true feminism should also aim to fight inequality as a whole. Feminism should recognize that while some women do not have the same opportunities that men may have, there are some women that are far more privileged than other women and even some men. A feminist piece brings these norms, inequalities and realities into light and questions or defies them to provoke thoughts and questions to the person reading the literature.

  1. Narolyn,
I like your emphasis here on "analysis." A feminist text is not just about "the fight" for equality, but about analyzing where that need to fight might come from.
